about

The first reel is named after an uilleann piper originally from Cloone, County Leitrim who worked as a policeman in 19th century Chicago. He supplied tunes to the music collector Francis O’Neill who described him as “…kindly, unassuming, patient, tolerant, helpful and hospitable”. The second reel is #3 in The Collected Compositions of Ed Reavy, the County Cavan and Philadelphia composer and it takes its title from W.B. Yeats’ mystical poem The Host of the Air. A related version of the tune is also associated with the County Galway fiddle player and composer, Paddy Fahy. The third reel is named after a Chicago-born fiddle player of Galway and Mayo parentage who was a prominent figure in the city’s music scene for many years of the 20th century.
